Dr. Hetherington grew up in
Butte, Montana where his father taught at Montana Tech. He attended
Butte High School and was graduated in 1978. He obtained his
undergraduate degree in biology at Carroll College in Helena, Montana. He then
attended Saint Louis University School of Medicine, graduating in
1986. In 1992, he completed a five-year surgical residency training
program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Madigan Army
Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. This specialty is concerned
with medical and surgical disorders of the ears, nose, throat, face,
head and neck. After residency, he completed a fellowship program in
Head and Neck Reconstruction and Skull Base Surgery at
Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois in
1994. The focus of the additional year of training was plastic,
reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the head and neck, surgical
treatment of the head and neck cancer, and the treatment of nose and
sinus disorders. During his military service, he was assigned to
Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii where he was a
Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery and was responsible for the
training of resident physicians. At that time, he held faculty
appointments at the University of Hawaii and at the Uniformed Services
University of the Health Sciences. He is board certified by both the
American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Facial
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. |
